HowTo Use GLBTeen Resource RSS Feed

RSS Feeds for Resources for GLBTeen

The GLBTeen Resources site has collected GLBT-Q related news stories from different RSS feeds and blogs around the Internet. I've put together an RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feed of these stories that you can subscribe to for free. Some great aggregator sites that provide a free RSS feed reader are Bloglines and Netvibes.

The easiest way to use this RSS feature is to sign up with one of the above free sites. Bloglines provides RSS entries from blogs and news gathering sites in a two-frame format: the left frame has the list of the RSS feeds you subscribe to and the right-hand, main frame shows the content of a selected feed.

Netvibes has a nice multi-column, "newspaper" style interface with story headlines from each RSS feed showing in a separate, moveable box. Set up a category of similar feeds in a tab, add the feed you'd like to subscribe to and then place it within the tab.

Here's a quick-'n-dirty set of instructions on signing up for the Resources for GLBTeen RSS feed:

  1. An RSS feed is often offered with the little RSS orange chiklet icon:

Many of these links are found at either the bottom of the page or in a left/right navigation bar.

  2. Right-click on the above RSS icon and select "Copy Link Location" in Firefox.

  3. Right-click on either the Bloglines link or the Netvibes link and choose "Open Link in New Window" or "Open Link in New tab". This will open a new window or new tab with the selected site.

  4. Paste the previously selected Link Location into the aggregator site and subscribe. In a few moments you'll see the list of articles published by Resources for GLBTeen.

  5. This is an idea I'm playing with—let me know what you think of this feature. Enjoy!
