Visit the new GLBTeen Bulletin Board discussion area
a page on the Tucson GLBTeen web site designed to help GSA members and sponsors to communicate. Take the time to do a brief registration and be a part of the discussion, brainstorming new ideas, helping your (and other) GSAs grow!
Site Access Problems
Please visit the Site History & Changelog page on the Tucson GLBTeen web site for a brief explanation of recent problems with accessibility of this web site. Thanks for hanging in there during the hub-bub.Info
This web page is here to provide information for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning teenagers in Tucson and Southern Arizona to understand about being a gay teen. Using the word queer to describe yourself as a homosexual is not derogatory, nor is it meant as a 'put down', but is used to include gay/lesbian/bi and trans people. The generic term gay is also used to include gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people.
The information presented here will also help queer teens to understand that they are not alone! There are many other queer folk ALL around them--some of the others are out of the closet and are highly visible; others are quietly leading their own lives and feeling that they have no need to identify with or be a part of the gay community; Gay people are our teachers, librarians, mechanics, coaches, grocery clerks, cooks, our parents or brothers and sisters.
Why am I doing this?
I am the co-sponsor of the Gay/Straight Alliance student group at a local high school where I am on staff. I'm also the past vice-president of GLSEN of Tucson.
Teens in Tucson don't have access to info about queer groups/get-togethers unless they live in the heart of town. Putting this information on the Internet will provide queer Tucson youth with much needed information and support opportunities.
I would like to dedicate this site to my late brother, Mike and his partner, Don; dedication also to Mark, Angela, Aaron, and Jason for their perseverance and their passion for starting the Gay/Straight Alliance at Canyon Del Oro High School in the Amphitheater School District. The Alliance wouldn't have happened if they hadn't put themselves "out" there. Also, I bow deeply to the current GSA members (Mariah, Stephanie, Nick, Cody, and all the rest) for all their hard work in helping to make their high school a place that honors diversity and understanding; also for their strength and telling their stories, helping the Amphi school board to finally include sexual orientation as part of the district's non-discrimination policy! You go, girls!
Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions or comments. How do you like the new format? Find a problem on any of the site pages? Please give me your feedback.
Tucson GSA Hangout Mailing List
I've set up an mailing list called GLBTeenTucson GSA Hangout. This "club" is a place for Tucson area high school students to interact and brainstorm about their GSA, the Imagine Project, and statewide issues & concerns. Click on this link to go to the web address and sign up for the mailing list and join to send & receive email messages or read & post messages to the GLBTeen-GSA Hangout group.
Please note: this new mailing list service (as of Nov.20, 2005) is intended to replace the Yahoo Tucson GSA Hangout "group" that has been mostly inaccessible for the past couple of months.
