Making Schools Safe For Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Questioning Students & Staff is another powerful document from Dr. Warren Blumenfeld that describes steps every school should take to protect GLBT students and staff. Originally written for Iowa State University Ames but is also applicable for high schools. Used with permission from Dr. Blumenfeld.

Voices of GLBT Youth Lesson Plans is a collection of Microsoft Word documents that can be used with students and teachers/staff when viewing the GLSEN of Tucson produced movie, "Voices of GLBT Youth". These files are grouped together into a single, compressed ZIP file, about 24.7 Kb (pretty small.)

Project 10, a Los Angeles Unified School District project works to ensure that the voices of LGBT youth are represented in school policies and practices. Project 10 provides assistance and support to students, faculty, and staff who have experienced harassment or discrimination. Their web site has a short-n-sweet help file (from an unknown source) on How to Handle Harassment in the Hallways in 3 Minutes of LessI found this to be very succinct but effective.

- LULAC Youth Art Contest
LULAC Youth Art Contest Artwork is based on what the theme "The Key To Success Is Through Education: Goal OneGraduate!" means to you. The contest is open to middle and high school age youth. Great Prizes will be awarded to the winners. The recipient of the Grand Prize will have their work used for the promotion of the 18th Annual LULAC Youth Leadership Conference and 18th Annual Educators Awards Banquet. Winners and their parents will be invited as honored guests to attend the LULAC Educators Banquet dinner at the Tucson Convention Center, time and date TBA. Students must complete the application forms (see the link above for information and application) and submit required materials in order to be considered for the awards. Win some great prizes - including refurbished laptops and $300 scholarships to Pima.

PFLAG of Tucson Gene Moore ScholarshipThis year PFLAG Tucson will present seven $1,000.00 scholarships to seven LGBT persons to attend an institution of higher education. The application deadline is March 31, 2007. (Please note that the deadline date is incorrect on the PFLAG Tucson web site.)
Must be a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender person, and must be accepted to an institution of higher education for the period for which the scholarship is requested to apply.

GLSEN Arizona Tucson provides a $500 scholarship for senior students who have been active members of a local Tucson GSA and who meet the scholastic requirements of the scholarship.

LEAGUE Foundation is a scholarship fund, created by and affiliated with LEAGUE at AT&T. Each year, the LEAGUE Foundation awards academic scholarships to assist self-identified Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender youth in attending college. These scholarships are available only to graduating U.S. high school seniors.

The Point Foundation provides scholarship opportunities for exceptional students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity... based on leadership, acheivement, and financial or emotional need. They are especially looking to award more scholarships to young women and trans folks, because these groups have been under-represented in past applications.

DQRC Establishes New Scholarship Fund for Deaf Queer Youth!
The Deaf Queer Resource Center is proud to announce the establishment of the Deaf Queer Youth Scholarship Fund, a new fund that awards monetary scholarships to deserving self-identified Deaf Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex college-bound youth.
The initial scholarships will be offered in the amounts of $250 to $500 each. In order to be considered for a scholarship, applicants must be under 25 years of age, be enrolled in high school or college, have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better, and submit a written or video essay and other supporting documentation.
The deadline to apply is July 15, 2005. Deaf Queer youth of color are especially encouraged to apply.
